Periodontics

What is it?

A Periodontist is a dentist whose practice solely focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease and mucogingival conditions, as well as the placement and treatment of dental implants.

A periodontist must have both a 5-year undergraduate dental degree, and an additional 3-year full time docturate or masters in Periodontology.

Dr. Ed Madeley

Periodontics

Dr Ed Madeley qualified with First Class Honours from Cardiff University in his native Wales.

Whilst studying Ed was awarded the Andrew Gerard Memorial Prize for the most clinically outstanding student; and upon graduation was awarded the Alumni Arts Prize as the student who had provided most to the course both academically and socially.

Following graduation Ed worked in a mixed NHS and Private practice in South Wales, before relocating to Dublin in 2010. During this time Ed secured his membership with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

After 7 years in private practice in Dublin Ed returned to Trinity College Dublin to complete his 3-year full time clinical docturate in Periodontology and Implantology before returning to specialist private practice.  Following this Ed gained his fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.

Dr Ed lectures both in Ireland and internationally on the subject of Periodontontology (gum disease) and dental implants.

David

Dr. David Naughton

B.Dent.Sc, Dip. PCD(RCSI), MFD(RCSI), D.Ch.Dent (Periodontology), FFD (Periodontology)

Periodontics

Dr. David graduated as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin and then spent several years working in general practice. He spent two further years in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery departments in the UK and Ireland. He undertook his full time three-year specialist training in Periodontology and Implant dentistry in Trinity College Dublin graduating with a first class honours Doctorate. He also completed the FFD Periodontology specialist examinations in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is currently in practice limited to Periodontics and Implant dentistry. David undertakes a full range of periodontal and implant procedures. He also lectures nationally and internationally.
Outside of Periodontics and Implant dentistry, David is a keen runner and musician.

Ioanna

Dr. Ioanna Politi

B.Dent.Sc MFD (RCSI) Periodontology Postgraduate Trinity College Dublin

Periodontics

Dr. Ioanna Politi qualified with First Class Honours from Trinity College Dublin. Upon graduation she received numerous awards including the “Sheldon Friel Prize for 1st place in final examinations”, the “Dental Council Prize for the best results in Oral Surgery” as well as the Irish Dental Association Prize for the highest results across 5 years of dental school.

Following graduation, Ioanna accepted the position of Junior House Officer in the Dublin Dental University Hospital. During that year she completed the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland membership examinations receiving “The Faculty of Dentistry RCSI Prize” for the highest result in the Diploma examination. Ioanna then moved to London to work for two years as a Senior House Officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery in King’s College Hospital and London North West Healthcare Trusts. She relocated to Dublin in 2021 to return to Trinity College Dublin and complete a clinical doctorate in Periodontology.
